PLOT
PLOT
It was late into the Cold months and the old she-wolf couldn't help but chuckle with delight as she nestled down alongside the youngsters of her pack. Each child had perched themselves before the wise storyteller with their muzzles pointed in her direction and their pearly eyes gleaming with excitement, for each of them knew it was the time she'd tell one of her fables. Though they had heard her stories many times before, they all relished each time as much as the first. This night, they were in for a new tale.
"Alright, alright. Settle down, now- or Ookamikira is gonna get ye!" The elder huffed, rolling on to her side.
Almost simultaneously, the pups piped out the question, "Who's Ookamikira?" The old female only laughed, telling the children it was a story for another time. Yet, they would have nothing of the sort and pleaded at the poor old she-wolf until she finally gave in.
"Fine, fine." She muttered, letting out a short sigh.
"Many years ago- in this very forest, the packs before us fought off many evils... Ookamikira was the worst of all evil, he was the "Wolf Killer". He plagued the lands with his wrath of the White Eye Sickness."
"What's the White Eye Sickness?" One of the pups asked, cocking their head to the side.
"The White Eye Sickness, my dear child- is a horrid disease. It not only infected our kind, but it even infected our food supply. Afflicted animals would experience stubbornness and short temper, which then escalated to heightened aggression and wickedness." The she-wolf paused for effect. "Soon, they lost their minds. Over time, their eyes faded from white, to gray, and then to black. If it was real bad, their eyes would bleed... They even attacked wolves without reason!" The female spat, seemingly disgusted by the thought of a creature afflicted with White Eye Sickness, yet she carried on. "It is said that if an afflicted creature ever managed to kill another animal, they would eat their remains."
The children shuddered as they imagined the gnarly creatures, yet they leaned in closer to the she-wolf as though they might miss a single detail. "What did Ookamikira look like, storyteller?" Another pup questioned curiously.
"Ahh, Kami-kira was said to be like a wolf- yet he walked on two legs, and his limbs were long and his muzzle was short." The dame took a moment to reposition herself, glancing out into the dim opening of the cave. "One day, the Wolf Killer set out for The Pack of the Redwood Forest. He sent down the plague and infected many of the pack's food supply, resulting in a mass outbreak. The pack was overthrown, but three remained. There was Ghi, daughter of the alpha pair, Indomnus, son of the beta pair, and lastly Scurnikus, son of the warrior chief."
A gasp came from each pup as they marveled at the thought of the survivors and daydreamed of how they used to look.
"Unfortunately, the three broke apart and created their own packs; Pack of the Scarlet Oak, Pack of the Eastern Hemlock, and Pack of the Hawthorn. They named them after their favorite trees of the Redwood Forest. As time went on, the packs grew and the disease spread further as Ookamikira got stronger. It became a battle for survival. Legend says the three packs went to war over land and resources..." The storyteller's voice trailed. "But it is only a tale, kiddos. Now, off to bed."
The pups let out a whine before going off to their nests, dreaming of the tale of the three packs. They couldn't help but wonder, would they have survived?
This thread will be altered as necessary. I will add a brief explanation of the format here, but until then- stay tuned!~
